How to paste multiple items in order on a Mac
macOS keeps only one item on the clipboard. To paste several items in order, use a clipboard manager with a paste queue. In Hotstash, ⌘-click the items you want, start a Paste Stack, and every normal ⌘V pastes the next item. Press Esc to stop.
Launch offer: $4.99 instead of $9.99 until 1 January 2027.
Step by step
- Copy the things you'll need, as usual. Hotstash saves each copy.
- Press ⌘⇧V to open Hotstash.
- ⌘-click the items in the order you want to paste them.
- Start the Paste Stack. The panel closes and the first item is ready.
- Click where it goes and press ⌘V. Move to the next spot and press ⌘V again. Each press pastes the next item.
- Press Esc to cancel early. When the last item is pasted, the stack ends by itself.
Forgot one value halfway through?
Copy it. Your new copy pastes next, then the stack carries on where you left off. Nothing in the stack is skipped.
Good uses
- Filling a sign-up or checkout form from details you keep in notes.
- Moving rows from a spreadsheet into a web form, one cell at a time.
- Pasting a list of IDs or tracking numbers into separate fields.
Paste Stack needs Accessibility permission so it can notice your ⌘V presses. It only listens while a stack is running.
Questions
Can a Mac paste more than one clipboard item?
Not on its own: macOS holds one item at a time. A clipboard manager like Hotstash keeps a history and can paste several items in sequence with Paste Stack.
How do I stop a Paste Stack?
Press Esc. It also ends by itself after the last item is pasted.
Does this work on iPhone?
Yes. Build the stack in the Hotstash iPhone app, then open the Hotstash keyboard in any app; each tap pastes the next item.
Hotstash is an independent app. Other product names belong to their owners and are used only to compare features.
